Where Mumbaikars meet

Top: nukkad archive

What is nukkad ?

nukkad - a meeting place, a place where friends gather to discuss the day's happenings. Also called a "katta" in the local lingo.

The "nukkad" mailing list is a cyber-katta where Bombayites as well as people interested in the city can discuss issues relevant to them and just hang out.

To send messages to the list, send them to nukkad-list@mumbai-central.com.
Note: You need to subscribe to the list before you can send any messages to it.

If you do not wish to join the mailing list but would still like to keep in touch with the happenings in the city, check the Message boards.

Charter

"nukkad" is a lightly-moderated mailing-list for the discussion of the culture, history and the people of Mumbai (formerly Bombay). It is meant as a forum for people from the city and for those interested in it.

Rationale

Bombay is one of the most modern cities of India, and over the course of centuries, has attracted people from all over the world, thereby transforming it into a fascinating cosmopolitan region.

Being the economic and financial capital of India, it is only natural that people from all over the world would like to acquire accurate and useful information about Bombay. "nukkad" would go a long way in meeting these needs.

This mailing list is likely to have a much wider reach than a city-related newsgroup. VSNL, the sole Internet service provider in Bombay does not yet carry a newsfeed. A newsgroup-only service will isolate the people from the city and greatly dilute the purpose of this service.
A newsgroup also has a nasty habit of quickly degenerating into cross-posts and spam.

Messages to the the nukkad mailing list are also archived.
